—  About

Darina Karpov is a painter whose work moves between memory, myth, and psychological landscape.

Born in the Soviet Union and raised during its collapse, she draws on a lived experience of instability—of systems dissolving and meanings shifting—to construct luminous, psychologically charged environments where childhood appears not as innocence but as a volatile threshold. Her paintings unfold as fragile ecosystems of children, animals, interiors, and organic forms that resist hierarchy. Karpov’s works is available through Pierogi, Pato in New York, Hales Gallery in London, Mindy Solomon Gallery in Miami, and David B. Smith Gallery in Denver. She has participated in exhibitions at the Neuberger Museum, the deCordova Museum, and the Irish Museum of Modern Art. Her work is held in public and private collections including the Princeton University Art Museum, the West Collection, and the Zabludowicz Trust, London. She is the recipient of Pollock-Krasner Foundation grants (2009, 2024), 2020 NYSCA/NYFA Artist Fellowship, residency fellowships at Yaddo, the MacDowell Colony, and the UCross Foundation, and Lower East Side Print Shop. Karpov received her MFA from the Yale School of Art and her BFA from MICA.
